Urban Place Supplement
The Urban Place Supplement to the Essex Design Guide (UPS) provides a design framework for the delivery of compact, mixed-use and sustainable development. It emphasises design quality, improved infrastructure, and the sustainability of existing urban locations.
The UPS is useful reading for anyone involved in built environment projects in Essex and beyond. It is available as a free PDF (large file) or to purchase as a published copy by clicking on the 'Related links' or 'Related downloads' (below right).
Adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document
In Essex, the UPS has been adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) by several local planning authorities. Other councils in Essex have either adopted in part, actively refer to the UPS as guidance, or have deferred a decision.
